Bitdefender's move reflects a practical shift: as AI systems increasingly act autonomously on behalf of users—handling transactions, accessing APIs, making decisions—the traditional security model of protecting a human endpoint breaks down. The company is recognizing that an AI agent operating across multiple services needs cryptographic privacy and identity masking independent of its human operator, a departure from consumer VPN logic that assumes one user, one device, one protected identity. Enterprise and consumer security stacks will need to treat autonomous actors as distinct entities rather than extensions of human users.
