The cultural messaging around AI has inverted what "automation" means to consumers—we celebrate AI as a proxy for wealth and sophistication rather than as a tool that should prove quality and eliminate error. If an AI agent handles a transaction or message on your behalf, that badge should function as a guarantee of accuracy and care, the way a notary stamp does, not as a lifestyle signifier. This gap between how AI is marketed (as a luxury differentiator) and how it should function (as infrastructure that transfers liability from user to system) matters because it obscures what consumers should actually demand: accountability built into the product, not marketing around it.
