AI-Designed Viruses Engineered Without Natural Precedent

Researchers at MIT and UC San Francisco used machine learning to reverse-engineer viral design, generating synthetic bacteriophages that function in the lab but have no wild counterparts. This marks a shift from predicting protein folding to authoring functional biological code.
