Job applicants are discovering that their resumes—posted on public sites or submitted to companies—are being automatically harvested and analyzed by AI research agents. This creates a new form of unauthorized data extraction that inverts the resume screening process itself. It exposes how quickly AI tooling has normalized bulk data collection for training and inference, and reveals a gap in consent frameworks: job seekers have no mechanism to opt out of being scraped by third-party AI systems, even though they're uniquely vulnerable during employment transitions. Recruiters gain competitive intelligence while applicants lose control of their most sensitive professional information at moments of career risk.
