Satellites on Fire, an Earthshot Prize finalist, is moving beyond detection into regional partnership. Indonesia's recurring haze affects 600+ million people across Southeast Asia and has become urgent enough that a venture-backed startup can build a business model around government and corporate partnerships rather than compete for venture attention in developed markets. The company operates as quasi-public infrastructure—a pattern emerging as climate-driven disasters force profitable tech companies into roles that blur the line between commercial and state service. Climate tech in the Global South succeeds by filling governance gaps, not by disrupting existing markets.
