The security industry has invested heavily in application and network defenses while leaving processors—the foundation executing all code—almost entirely unprotected. Attacks like Spectre and Meltdown showed that adversaries can exploit CPU microarchitecture itself, bypassing every layer of software security. Defending against these attacks requires silicon-level hardening, which means chip manufacturers, not just software companies, must redesign their products.
