Cloud Providers Turn Cold on Anthropic as Competition Intensifies

Anthropic's reliance on AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure for inference compute creates a structural conflict: the same companies hosting Claude are building competing AI models and have little incentive to remain neutral infrastructure providers. This mirrors the squeeze independent chipmakers faced against Intel, except the bottleneck is GPU capacity and model distribution rather than silicon. Anthropic's independence as a standalone company is directly threatened by infrastructure gatekeepers who control its go-to-market. Building its own data centers will take years and billions, leaving a gap where Google and Microsoft can deprioritize Anthropic workloads or raise prices as leverage in acquisition talks.
