Women are traveling internationally to fertility clinics—often in Albania, Turkey, and Mexico—based on inflated success rates and misleading marketing that diverges sharply from clinical reality and individual medical histories. The clinics exploit information asymmetries and regulatory gaps, charging tens of thousands of dollars while delivering outcomes far below patient expectations, creating a shadow medical economy where profit motives directly conflict with informed consent. When reproductive access is constrained by geography and insurance coverage, that vulnerability becomes a target for commercial exploitation.
