General Robotics' GRID platform automates its own engineering work

General Robotics is automating the engineering bottleneck that has historically required specialized expertise to deploy robots—reducing setup time from weeks to hours by having GRID configure itself rather than requiring human engineers to hand-tune each deployment. Robot adoption has been constrained less by hardware cost than by the scarcity of skilled integrators; self-engineering platforms could unlock deployment at scale by removing the human expertise gate. The tradeoff: if GRID is genuinely autonomous in its engineering choices, operators lose visibility into why a robot made certain decisions, sacrificing flexibility and debuggability for speed.
