Search users are increasingly getting direct answers from ChatGPT and Claude instead of clicking through to blog posts, so the long-tail traffic that sustained independent creators and niche technical publishers is evaporating. This collapses the economic model for blogs that relied on ad revenue and affiliate links, forcing creators to either pivot to platforms where AI can't undercut them—newsletters, Discord communities, or paywalled content—or disappear entirely. AI companies capture search intent that used to funnel readers to diverse creators. Mid-market publishers and freelancers who built audiences on free, discoverable content lose most.
