Engineering students are now using ChatGPT to solve CAD problems instead of consulting official tutorials or asking professors. The chatbot's training data includes vast amounts of proprietary software documentation and user-generated solutions. Autodesk and Dassault Systèmes invested billions in software ecosystems and documentation, but their most engaged users—students and professionals—now query a free competitor that learned from that IP. The pressure on professional design software vendors isn't about ChatGPT's accuracy. It's whether they can afford to let their onboarding experience degrade relative to an AI chatbot, or whether they'll need to build chat interfaces directly into their products.
