Indian authorities are censoring the documentation of censorship itself. Delhi Police issued takedown notices against researchers at SFLC.in who were studying patterns of government content removal on X. The move eliminates the evidentiary trail of state suppression, complicating scrutiny by journalists, courts, and international bodies of the scale and nature of online speech controls. The tactic signals state anxiety about measurable censorship—visibility makes it politically contestable.
