Injectable device controls nerves wirelessly to treat chronic pain

Researchers have demonstrated a fundamentally different approach to neuromodulation—moving from implanted pacemaker-like devices toward injectable, batteryless systems that respond to external stimulation. Chronic pain affects 100+ million Americans; current treatments require either major surgery or continuous pharmaceutical management. A minimally invasive alternative could reduce barriers to access. The absence of batteries and wires also eliminates the infection risk and replacement procedures that plague existing implants, which is why this approach could accelerate adoption across pain management, movement disorders, and other conditions requiring precise neural intervention.
