Microsoft's own workforce is adopting third-party AI tools over internal offerings—a credibility gap for a company positioning itself as an AI leader. The $300 median monthly spend shows AI tooling has moved from experimental to essential for knowledge workers, but the shift happening outside official channels suggests Microsoft's integrated AI value prop (Copilot, GitHub Copilot Pro, etc.) isn't convincing even its own technical staff. If the company can't convert its employees, enterprise adoption will follow.
