Sony's move away from disc-based PlayStation 5 games is collapsing the used game market and independent game retail chains that depended on it. Pink Gorilla Games and similar small retailers now face existential pressure as digital distribution consolidates control back to platform owners and eliminates the secondary market that once sustained local game shops. Digital ecosystems lock consumers into licensing rather than ownership, making trading and resale impossible. For consumers, this means higher effective costs and reduced choice.
