PPA structures are shifting from simple megawatt commitments to performance-based contracts that price risk and reliability directly into deals. This reflects maturation in renewable energy markets where volume guarantees no longer command premium valuations. The shift exposes a structural vulnerability: older solar and wind projects locked into fixed-volume agreements face competition from newer capacity that can negotiate dynamic pricing tied to grid services, stability, and market conditions. Contract design now determines project economics as much as physical generation capacity does, creating a two-tier asset class.
