A clinical trial has moved prime editing—a more precise variant of CRISPR that makes targeted corrections without cutting both DNA strands—from ex vivo cell manipulation into living patients. The shift from controlled laboratory conditions to in-vivo gene therapy collapses the technical distance between theoretical capability and clinical delivery. The bottleneck now shifts from "can we do this" to "can we do this reliably, safely, and affordably at scale across diverse patient populations." Companies and research groups that navigate regulatory approval, delivery logistics, and reimbursement models for in-vivo therapies will gain advantage over earlier-stage CRISPR approaches facing pressure to justify their technological overhead.
