Harvard's occupational automation study ranked search marketing 2.31 out of 7 on moral objection—among the lowest across 940 jobs. The score reflects how consumers view algorithmic search management: replaceable labor. Search marketing lacks the creative, care, or contextual elements that make other roles seem resistant to automation. The result is a legitimacy crisis. If the public doesn't object to your automation, advertisers and platforms have no ethical barrier to cutting headcount.
