Amazon's Ring is positioning end-to-end encryption as a premium privacy feature while the company's actual business model depends on video surveillance data for law enforcement partnerships and algorithmic training. Offering genuine E2E encryption means Ring loses the data it has built its entire ecosystem around monetizing. The company is forced to make encryption feel like a burden rather than a baseline right. Platforms that profit from surveillance cannot authentically offer privacy without cannibalizing their core revenue.
