As smart TV makers perfected surveillance through pre-installed apps and firmware-level tracking, monitor manufacturers are now embedding the same ad networks and data collection into productivity devices—blurring the line between entertainment and work hardware. Monitors have historically been inert devices that simply display what your PC sends them. Manufacturers are betting users won't notice or care about tracking on something they think of as a passive display. Brands have stopped asking permission to monetize screens and are instead treating all connected devices as real estate for behavioral data extraction.
