Startup deploys wood blankets to slow Arctic permafrost thaw

A commercial venture is testing whether insulating permafrost with woody material can reduce methane and CO2 releases from thawing regions—a direct intervention in one of climate's most stubborn feedback loops. If scalable, this approach could offer Arctic communities and governments an adaptation tool independent of global emissions cuts, though the tradeoffs between carbon sequestration in the wood itself and carbon prevented from permafrost release remain unresolved and economically unproven.
