Major corporations are demanding reliable, around-the-clock clean energy in North Carolina, but Duke Energy—the region's dominant utility—hasn't built the infrastructure to meet this demand. Data centers and manufacturers seeking to localize operations face delays. This pressure from high-value corporate customers could force Duke to accelerate renewable investments it has otherwise deprioritized, shifting the utility's capital allocation and the regional energy grid. The outcome will determine whether North Carolina attracts climate-conscious tech infrastructure or loses investment to states with more aggressive utilities.
