The binary "this is AI-generated" accusation has become a frictionless way to dismiss ideas online, but it's poorly calibrated to actual harms and impossible to verify at scale. What matters more than the tool's origin is whether the work has integrity, originality, or utility—yet consumers increasingly treat AI involvement as disqualifying regardless of output quality, which creates perverse incentives for creators to hide their process rather than be transparent about it. Consumers are less concerned with whether AI was involved than with credibility signals the "was this made by a person?" framing cannot provide.
