Platform designers systematically removed the ability to "leave" the internet—not because logging off became unnecessary, but because exit friction directly converts casual users into permanent residents who generate more data and engagement. This architectural choice embedded always-on experience into the interface: what was once a discrete online activity became ambient and continuous, collapsing the distinction between "using" a service and "being trapped" in it. The removal of the logout button is not a feature omission. It is business model made visible in interface design.
