As wallet-based attacks shift from stealing private keys to intercepting transactions in real-time, code audits and third-party verification alone cannot stop social engineering at the point of use. A fake Firefox extension stealing recovery phrases and an Electrum vulnerability that bypassed user awareness both demonstrate the gap: technical soundness doesn't prevent an attacker from deceiving a user at the moment they're most vulnerable. For consumers managing crypto, security verification has moved from "is this software trustworthy" to "am I being targeted right now"—a burden that published code reviews cannot resolve.
