Google's Assistant Strategy Left Muse to Meta
Source: Daring Fireball
Meta's Muse exposes a competitive gap for Google. Google invented the personal assistant category with Google Assistant but never evolved it into an agent-based system to match Claude, ChatGPT, or Meta's offering. Google's organizational fragmentation, trapped capital in Search, and pattern of shelving moonshots before commercialization let Meta move faster on conversational AI agents built for usefulness rather than ad insertion. Incumbent infrastructure advantage doesn't guarantee dominance in new product categories, especially when business model incentives conflict.
