Heat-stable vaccines promise global access, but African deployment lags
Source: Public health – The Conversation
Thermostable formulations eliminate the cold chain bottleneck that has historically made immunization campaigns prohibitively expensive in low-resource settings. Adoption remains sluggish because existing infrastructure investments, regulatory pathways, and procurement systems are built around refrigerated delivery. Health systems in Africa lack the capital to retool supply chains, and manufacturers face fragmented demand from countries unable to guarantee bulk orders. The technology sits underutilized in wealthy markets while the countries that need it most cannot afford to deploy it.
