Uber's Fragmented Customer Data Becomes Untapped Product Opportunity
Source: Lewis C. Lin’s Newsletter
Uber owns integrated behavioral data across rides, Uber Eats, and financial services—mobility patterns, spending habits, payment methods—yet operates these as siloed products with no cross-pollination. Connecting these datasets would let Uber optimize pricing dynamically (surge pricing informed by Eats order history), personalize recommendations (ride timing matched to delivery frequency), and create bundled offerings that competitors like Amazon can't match at Uber's scale. The competitive moat is execution: whoever stitches customer behavior across categories first gains a feedback loop where products improve faster because they know customers better.
