Fanfic Authors Take Down Scraper Site With Coordinated Takedown Campaign
Source: 404 Media
A coordinated effort by AO3 authors overwhelmed a commercial scraper site with 2,000 DMCA notices in one day, forcing it offline. The site was monetizing stolen creative work. This demonstrates how grassroots IP enforcement can operate at scale without relying on platform enforcement or lawyers. Distributed creator communities are using volume and organization to bypass traditional legal infrastructure. The takedown reveals both the vulnerability of unauthorized commercial reuse models and the organizing capacity of online fandom networks.
