CATL bypasses battery distributors with direct-sales minimums

CATL's 3-box minimum order and sub-week fulfillment bypass the margin and inventory functions that traditional battery distributors depend on—a pattern already established in semiconductors and components, where manufacturers disintermediate as scale permits. Smaller integrators (EV makers, energy storage companies, power tool manufacturers) now have direct alternatives to distributor markups, putting pressure on the middle layer unless they can consolidate into specialized services—financing, technical support, local logistics—that CATL won't replicate. The effect will be sharpest in markets with thin distributor networks; in regions with entrenched distribution infrastructure and relationship-based ordering, adoption will be slower.
