By stationing Twist Robotics drones as airborne signal repeaters, Ukrainian forces have extended the effective range of their attack platforms beyond the line-of-sight limitations that typically restrict operators to targets within a few kilometers. This systems-level innovation multiplies effective range and dwell time of scarce platforms, using the mesh-network approach commercial drone companies employ but adapted for contested environments. The tradeoff is clear: additional repeater drones become targets themselves, which explains why adoption remains limited. The pattern reflects a maturing drone warfare doctrine in which connectivity infrastructure ranks as a battlefield asset equivalent to weapons systems.
