Samsung's memory chip shortage drives phone prices higher
Source: SamMobile
Samsung's dominance in DRAM and NAND flash production means supply constraints at the company cascade across the entire smartphone supply chain, giving Samsung pricing power while competitors absorb cost increases. Memory costs won't drop back to 2023 levels as AI workloads and on-device processing demand denser chips. This creates a structural price floor for flagship and mid-range phones through at least 2025. Device makers can't switch suppliers without redesigning products and accepting margin compression, so consumers will shoulder most of the burden through higher retail prices.
