British sentiment has swung sharply anti-social media, with a third actively believing society would improve if platforms vanished—a striking reversal from the utopian narratives that dominated the 2010s. This reflects concrete anxieties about mental health, misinformation, and attention economics that have accumulated enough lived experience to shift public opinion into active hostility. For consumer brands still depending on organic reach and influencer marketing, platforms are becoming actively unpopular with their own user bases in major markets. Growth metrics now collide with cultural permission to operate.
