Most companies flying blind on AI spending, KPMG finds

A KPMG survey reveals that three-quarters of enterprises lack real-time visibility into their AI costs, with only 26% achieving comprehensive tracking while a quarter sees expenses only retroactively through billing cycles. Cost opacity directly undermines procurement discipline—companies can't optimize cloud vendor negotiations, rightsize model usage, or allocate AI budgets effectively across business units when they're spending blind. AI infrastructure has outpaced the financial controls and metering mechanisms that enterprises built for traditional software and cloud services.
